Lots of people have stereotypes about getting old, mostly about short, grumpy little elderly people who can hardly hear or see. For the most part, there is no basis for that kind of mindset; a new generation of adults is learning that it is possible to live long, healthy and productive lives. Following is some advice to help you be among those who enjoys life to its fullest as you age.
When thinking about your aging process, if you are moved to be emotional, be emotional and then let it go. Don’t mull over it. Aging can be tough, and tears will happen. Make a big effort to just move on to the next thing in your amazing life. This will help keep you positive and motivated.
Sleep is very important for the body, so make sure you get enough each day. Ideally, you should receive between seven and nine full hours of rest. Insufficient sleep is a risk factor for many diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and depression.
For even healthier aging, eat more fish and less red meat. Red meat can muck up your arteries by sticking to the linings. Seafood has the exact opposite effect. Seafood not only does not stick as much to the arteries, it even helps prevent other things from sticking as well! As an additional supplement, consider taking omega-3 oil, the same oil found in seafood, every day.
Life needs to be explored and savored. Set goals as you might have done for your children years ago, and when you reach your goals you will feel a deep sense of pride.
Get the proper amount of water each day! This is important as the years go by! Without proper hydration, your body will react in terrible ways. It could lead to things as serious as seizures, brain damage or even death. Buy a large jug that will hold eight glasses of water and fill it each morning. Make sure that it is empty by the time you go to bed.
Exercise your brain. Strive to learn something new everyday. Keeping the brain active also keeps it healthy, sharp and alert. It sounds crazy, but if you stop working this precious organ, you may just forget how to use it. If you’re not sure how to keep it active, buy a book of brainteasers and solve them all.
Aging gracefully is everyone’s goal in life. A great way to start on that path is adopt a healthy diet – and it’s never too late to start. By eating five fruits and vegetables, at least three servings of whole grains, and drinking five to eight glasses of eight ounce water a day, you will be giving your body the proper nutrients it needs to begin the aging process gracefully. There are many easy ways to get fruits and vegetables too – have you tried juicing?
This can be the happiest time of your life! If you take control of your life and diet, the next fifty years could be great.
